It was nearly a story book ending for Osceola High School’s basketball season thanks to this week’s Bright House Sports Network Athlete of the Week Cortez Edwards.

Kowboys senior guard Cortez Edwards led his basketball team to the Class 7A state title game this past weekend.

“He had told me before the playoffs started that he, ‘in order for myself and the rest of the seniors to have a shot at playing college basketball is we have to make a run,’” coach Nate Alexander said.

“He put us on his back and just played really well can’t say enough about the kid.”

This postseason Osceola knocked off Lakeland, Bartow, East Bay and finally Oviedo to advance to the state finals—for the first time in 32 years.

“We made a lot of history, the city kinda like got on our backs,” Cortez Edwards said.

“Everyone was rooting for us even like our opponents in the district, everyone was rooting for us, it was a really big deal.”

Edwards combined for 40 points and 22 rebounds playing in Lakeland in his last two high school contests.
