Olympia’s Kyren Hollis has his name in the 2015 books, after running a national best time of 1:52.25 in the 800m at last week’s Metro Conference Championship.

“I went out there and tried to be aggressive and run my race, which is what my coach has been telling me for a long time. Run your race, and once you run your race, everything will come, which it did, and I didn’t know it was that fast,” said Hollis with a smile.

To cap off that stellar performance, Hollis won the 400m with a 48.17 run at the Bob Hayes Invitational. According to Hollis’ coach, Jason Greer, it’s nothing new.

“Kyren is a special kid. I’ve been around a few athletes like that, but he is very, very special. When we have an athlete like that, we want to get them to the very best they can be so they can experience stuff that most regular athletes will never have an opportunity to.”

Stuff – like having your name listed as a top runner in the nation. For Hollis, all the wins, are just proof that the work is worth it.

“It’s like all the hard work has been really paying off, and it showed. I am just ready to keep improving and get better times, day by day. It’s still a good feeling to know I have the nation’s fastest, but I only have room for improvement.”
