Godby entered Wednesday’s Class 4A state semifinal game against Holy Trinity with a perfect record and a No. 1 state ranking.

They left the game with their perfect record intact with a 70-56 victory. Godby will play Cardinal Newman for the 4A title LIVE on BHSN Thursday at 1 p.m.

The Crusaders are ranked No. 2 in 4A, so the championship game will pit No. 1 vs. No. 2.

In the semifinal game, the Cougars set a torching shooting pace in the first half – shooting 59 percent from the field. Guard Quan Jackson scored 18 of his game-high 23 points in the first two quarters and helped build a solid lead throughout the game.

Holy Trinity rallied at times to cut the lead to single digits. The Tigers pulled within nine midway through the third quarter when they got a charge call and the Godby bench received a technical. Guard Keoni Wallington sank both free throws.

But Godby had too many weapons to counterattack any rally.

Wallington led the Tigers with 20 points. Julian Gardner added 10.
