Orangewood Christian’s Chase Gwynn had some great opportunities in the 1a state title game, and took advantage of all of them. The sophomore put three in the back of the net as the Rams won their first ever state title in winter soccer – defeating Santa Fe Catholic 6-1.

The win – and Chase’s contributions – far more than he could have expected. "It’s actually a lot more. I would have been just happy to score. It was just amazing,” said Gwynn.

Soccer coach Jeff Johnson definitely appreciates Chase’s scoring abilities. “Chase tends to step up in the big moments. He loves to put the ball in the back of the net, and it is always great to have a player like that. He’ll show up when we need him the most, and that was true in the state final,” Johnson said.

The hat trick in the state championship game is not the first for Chase. The Ram also netted three in the region final.

“He has got 24 goals this season as a sophomore, which is amazing. He has got a burst of speed that the defenders don’t expect, and he has really got a nose for the goal so for him to score three in the final, was not a surprise to me,” said Johnson.
