Cypress Bay won their fourth state title in the last five years, defeating West Orange 2-1 in penalty kicks (4-1) in the 5A State Championship. The Lightning won three consecutive state titles from 2011 to 2013, including a 1-0 win over the Warriors in 2013.

West Orange scored first on a goal in the 37th minute from leading scorer Felipe Silva, his 18th of the season. But Cypress Bay controlled much of the second half, and scored the equalizer in the 55th minute, with captain David Reyes tallying his first goal of the season.

For the first time in the boys soccer state finals, penalty kicks would be needed to determine a champion. Successful penalty kicks from Luis Perez, Franco Massacessi, Jake Fuhrman and Stefano Delgado clinched the win, with goalkeeper Juan Calle recording two saves on West Orange shots. Goalkeeper Alec Holland was the only Warrior to successfully convert his penalty kick.

Cypress Bay wins its fourth state title in school history, while the metro Orlando area still has not been able to capture a gold medal since Winter Park's state championship in 1979.
