Orangewood Christian won their first-ever winter soccer state title in dominating fashion, defeating Santa Fe Catholic 6-1 in the 1A Championship.  Early goals from Jonathan Bregel (1st minute) and Chase Gwynn (4th minute) were all the Rams needed against a feisty Crimson Hawks team.

Santa Fe Catholic was able to get on the board with a goal from Felix Vassallo in the 8th minute before the Rams offense took over.  Another first half goal from Gwynn gave Orangewood Christian a 3-1 halftime lead.  Bregel added his second goal in the 42nd minute, Renzo Montaiuti scored in the 44th minute and Gwynn notched another goal, his 24th of the season, for the hat trick in the 67th minute.

The game was delayed nearly ten minutes late in the first half with a severe leg injury to Daniel Potter, who had to be carted off the field.  A red card was given to Sam Studiale and the Crimson Hawks were forced to play a man down the rest of the game.

Orangewood Christian was a state power when the FHSAA included fall soccer as a regulated sport, winning three state titles (1993, 1999 and 2000).  But this was the Rams' first state title game appearance in the winter season, after falling in the state semifinals in five previous tries.  Santa Fe Catholic was also making their first-ever title game appearance, after advancing to the Final Four for the first time since 1997.
