The Lyman Greyhounds looked to earn their third win against Lake Brantley since 1982 and their third win of the season.  The 1-3 Lake Brantley Patriots had other plans.

“This is the first game of the season,” Lake Brantley Head Coach George Clayton told his team before the game to inspire a fresh start.

The Patriots believed in their coach and with the 21-14 victory, the Patriots are now 1-1 in the district.

This first half was uneventful, until Lake Brantley got the ball late in the second quarter. They drove the ball 90 yards on nine plays for the first score of the game.  The drive included a trick-play pass from backup quarterback Nathan Guzman to starting quarterback Jared Bernhardt for 20 yards and then three perfect passes by Bernhardt for a total of 53 yards and the touchdown.

The Patriot defense also came up with big plays in the first half.  The defense would not allow the Greyhounds offense to stay on the field long enough to get anything going. Four of Lyman’s first five offensive drives resulted in three and outs and forced punts.

In the second half, both teams would keep the ball on the ground. Between the two teams, the ball was only thrown four times in 24 minutes. The only pass Lyman threw was intercepted by Rafel Rabell.  Lake Brantley would carry the ball for 204 yards in the second half and finish the night with 252 total rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.

For Lyman, their only offense showing was running back Correz Morse.  Morse carried the ball 14 times for 191 yards and two touchdowns.  His touchdowns came on a 37-yard and an 89-yard carry.  The Greyhounds as a team ran the ball a total of 212 yards on 28 carries.

On Thursday, October 2nd, Lake Brantley will host Lake Mary on Bright House Sports Network. Lyman has a bye week and will get some rest as they prepare to play DeLand on October 10th.
