In the main event of the evening, the number one ranked Winter Springs Bears travelled to Bishop Moore to take on the second-ranked Hornets on the BHSN Game of the Week.

The Bears entered the match riding a 13-game unbeaten streak and were looking to knock off the third 2013 state champion on their schedule. Bishop Moore looked to prove that even though they’d lost some key players, they still were Central Florida’s top team.

The Hornets jumped out to an early 7-3 lead in the first set and used a 10-3 run fueled by senior middle blocker Gray Malias’ 5 kills to take the first set, 25-10. Again Bishop Moore jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead in the second set before the Bears clawed their way back into the match, only to have Bishop Moore win the second set 25-21.

Winter Springs took their first lead of the match early in the third set but watched as Bishop Moore took the lead late and nearly swept the Bears. Winter Springs turned to junior’s Bailey Johnson and Payton Caffrey as they scored 6 of the last 7 points in the set for the Bears to win 27-25.

The fourth set saw Bishop Moore take control of the momentum early behind a rowdy home crowd and cruise to 25-17 victory. The Hornets were led by Malias with 21 kills while freshman Shannon Crenshaw added 13 kills and 3 aces. The Hornets improved to 6-1 on the season.

The Bears fall to 13-1 and were led by Caffrey with 18 kills and Johnson with 13 kills and 2 blocks.
