University took their undefeated season on the road in week three to face Boone High School. However, the Cougars defense could not stop the Braves from scoring in a 38-29 defeat.

“We must protect the football, if we have any chance of winning,” Boone head coach Andy Johnson said before the game.

Last week, Boone had four fumbles in a loss to Timber Creek and this was a major focus for his team this week in practice.  Tonight, the Braves fumbled the football on their first two drives and put themselves in an early 14-0 hole.

University capitalized on these mistakes with a nine-yard run by Aaron Gibson and on a wide open 26-yard reception from Eddie DeJuan.

The Braves would fight back and score 21 unanswered points that included two scores from senior Darnell Burton. Burton scored on a 19-yard screen pass and on an eight-yard run with only seconds remaining in the first half. Quarterback Logan Smith then started his big night when he hit his receiver Alex Bergan on a 30-yard pass to start the second half.

“We all had the mindset that we weren’t going to lose this game,” Smith said about his team.

Smith would go on to end the night with 341 yards and four touchdowns. Two of those touchdowns were to Adam Anderson, who had nine catches for 204 yards.

Down 31-29 with just over one minute to play, the Cougars were stopped on third and goal at the two-yard line. On fourth down, Coach Don Stark sent out his field goal team to try to take the lead.  A wide-right kick gave the Braves the ball back and almost a guarantee to win the game. To be sure, Logan Smith hit Anderson again for a 75-yard touchdown pass to seal the Braves' first victory of the season.

Next week, Boone (1-2) will travel to play BHSN ranked #10 Apopka, while University (2-1) will be at home against Winter Park.
