Lake Mary senior Katia Haak racked up 53 kills last week en route to leading her team past district foes DeLand and Seminole—while also defeating No. 6 in our BHSN Top 10 rankings, Lake Highland Prep, to keep her team perfect on the season.

“The Lake Highland game was a big indicator of how well we can do especially under those intense situations where we can just come together, calm down and know that we can pull it out even when it is a really tough team that we’re up against,” Haak said.

In all three matches the Rams found themselves down and needing a lift and Haak was their girl.

“When maybe we are a little bit hectic and no one can put the ball down I communicate to my setters to set Katia,” senior libero Jessica Paolucci said. “We have to get a change of pace and have her put the ball down so we are really dependent on her to really hammer it when we need her to.”

The St. Louis commit is currently on pace to break the school’s career kills record this year.

“She has a lot of variability in her offense and she’s an aggressive server –she’s a fearless leader,” coach Katie Donoghue said. “She’s not afraid to score the point and her team and I can rely on her to score points when we need them the most.”
