The Mainland Buccaneers opened the regular season with a convincing shutout victory over DeLand 41-0 at Spec Martin Stadium on Friday night.

Sophomore running back Adrian Killins started the game with a 32-yard run and continued to power the Bucs offense. He had 11 touches for 144 yards and two touchdowns.

Mainland capitalized on a forced fumble by Kyle Oliver in the first quarter leading to the first score of the game on a Denzel Houston to Randy Baker connection.

After throwing an interception on his first career pass in his high school debut, Houston settled in for 7 of 8 for 53 yards over a stretch before finishing with 118 passing yards.  He also ran for 115 yards and a TD.

Will Collins led the Bucs' receivers with six catches for 83 yards.

Tomas Ward was DeLand's top performer on both sides of the ball.  He ran 72 yards on 16 carries and he registered six tackles and a pass break up on defense.
