Coaches: Seabreeze: Marc Beach (14th, 92-54). Spruce Creek: Andy Price (2nd 7-4).

How they match up: Seabreeze has won 11 of the last 12 meetings against their Volusia County rivals, including last year’s 36-3  triumph at Daytona Municipal Stadium. 2014 is the 10th straight season the Sandcrabs and Hawks have met in the season opener. The game was moved to DeLand’s Spec Martin Stadium due to a safety issue with the home stands at the New Smyrna Beach Sports Complex.

The Sandcrabs, who knocked off St. Augustine 20-7 in last week’s kickoff classic, need to replace nearly 85% of the offensive production from a team that went 7-3 and made the 6A playoffs in 2013. Senior receiver Raushod Floyd (330 receiving yards, 7 touchdowns.) is one of just four returning offensive starters and steps into the void left by Charles Nelson (495 receiving yards, 7 touchdowns), now at the University of Oregon. Junior quarterback Justin Muller moves up from JV and will call the signals while spring game starter and senior Jeremiah Wilson continues to recover from a broken ankle. Seabreeze will face a Spruce Creek defense that returns seven regular contributors, including senior end Vincent Drewes (72 tackles, 8 tackles for loss)

The Spruce Creek offense will again be focused around the running game. Florida International commit Collin Olsen (802 rushing yards, 4 touchdowns) is a bruiser at 6-foot-1, 235 pounds, while sophomore Aaron Conner (414 rushing yards, 3 touchdowns) and senior Nash Flood (252 rushing yards, and 2 touchdowns) can provide a change of pace. New quarterback Tajuan Williams, a 6-foot-4, 225 pound junior, could be the X-factor in passing game. Coach Price also has to replace the scoring production of last year’s team MVP: Kicker/Punter Jagger Leib (15 of 19 on field goals including five from 40+ yards) is now kicking at Mercer University. Four starters return to Marc Beach’s defensive unit including senior linebacker and leading tackler Chase Hamilton (104 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 3 forced fumbles)who will try to “seek and destroy” the Hawks’ trio of running backs.

Three stats to know: 1. Seabreeze has faced Spruce Creek in the last nine season openers and is 8-1 against the Hawks; 2. Second year Andy Price led the Hawks to a 6-game turnaround in his first season improving the record from 1-9 to 7-4; 3. Seabreeze is 5-3 all time on Bright House Sports Network, but went 0-2 last season.
