They say when you know you know and for Erica Weitz she knew she was born to run.

“I started running when I actually was a year old, my dad was an amazing marathon runner,” Weitz said. “So he was always a runner when I was younger and I knew I was going to be a runner when I got older because my parents would take me to these road races every weekend from one year on.”

Weitz still had the desire to compete after completing her collegiate running career at University of Central Florida in 2010. She had her eyes on the Boston Marathon.

Now the 5’7 Lake Howell track coach has qualified and competed in three 26.2 mile races in bean town including this past Monday’s—the first after the 2013 bombings.

“It was a crazy mix of emotions, I was so excited, I was a little nervous because it basically felt like I was running for the United States trying to show how strong we are and that we can come back even though such a tragedy happened at the same event a year before and come back stronger than ever Boston Strong –I just felt really honored to be back.”
