The Montverde Academy Eagles and the Astronaut War Eagles both had scoring chances on Wednesday, but it was MVA that was able to capitalize on them as it pulled out a 3-2 win in the Class 4A Region Quarterfinals.

The War Eagles had eight hits compared with Montverde Academy's three, but Astronaut stranded 11 runners on base.

Jesse Dreswick worked out of three tough spots for MVA, pitching all seven innings, allowing two earned runs on eight hits.

Jaime Beth Simpson took the loss for Astronaut after coming in for relief of Brooke Kershner. Simpson pitched the final three innings, walking one, strucking out three, and allowing the game-winning run.

The bottom of the third saw MVA  take an early lead, 2-0 after a bases loaded walk to Natalia Rodriguez and a sacrifice fly by Emily Martin.

Astronaut responded in the fourth inning, cutting the lead in half when Kelsey Kasper blooped a single into right field scoring recent JV call up Morgan Gyure.

The War Eagles tied up the game in the top of the sixth inning on a bunt single by Taylor Greene, again scoring Gyure.

But it was the eighth grader Jaycie Michael who saved the day for MVA. With a runner on third, Michael drove a towering shot to right field which nearly cleared the wall, bringing courtesy runner Bailey Bates home and giving the Eagles the 3-2 victory.

Montverde Academy improves to 21-4 on the season and will play the winner of the Trinity Prep-Cocoa Beach game.

Astronaut ends their season with a 24-4 record.
