The Dr. Phillips Panthers defeated the 9th ranked West Orange Warriors 9-8 in the first round play-in game of the FHSAA boys lacrosse state playoffs on Tuesday night.

The Panthers (14-6) scored the the last two goals of the game, and watched a late West Orange shot to tie glance of the goal post with under thirty seconds to play.

Junior attackman Ian Decker scored four goals, while sophomroe attackman Nick Forward added a goal and four assists for the Panthers, who will take on Tampa Plant in the second round on Friday. Plant also advanced with a 9-8 victory, by sneaking by Newsome on Tuesday.

West Orange (15-5) was led by attackman Connor McElvaney who notched five goals and an assist.
