Despite trailing 5-2 at the half, the host Lake Brantley Patriots rallied in the second half to defeat the Hagerty Huskies 11-8 in the FHSAA First Round Play-In Game on Tuesday.

Lake Brantley (11-11) outscored Hagerty in the third quarter by a 7-2 margin, with the decided shift in momentum representing a big change from the first half, where the Huskies dominated possession and tempo.

And while it would seem that Patriots coach Duane Crowley went into the half time break and made some key adjustments, Crowley said afterward it was quite the opposite.

“What I just told them is we weren’t going to make an adjustment — we were just going to do what we planned on doing,” Crowley said. “We got out of our game a little bit, in the first quarter especially.

“It was really just to come back to what our plan was, not really to make a new plan.”

Refocusing on the initial game plan paid dividends and, in particular, Lake Brantley had success winning face-offs and controlling possession in the second half.

Defensively, the Patriots were led by goalie Joey Dobrowolsky’s 17 saves. On the attack end, Lake Brantley’s Ryan Crowley and Austin Guerrina each had four goals and Jared Bernhardt registered two goals and an assist.

“It’s amazing when you can put a couple goals [in the net] and how the momentum kind of shifts a little bit,” Crowley said. “It was hustle — there’s no question about it.”

Hagerty ended the season with a record of 10-11. The Huskies were led on Tuesday by a pair of goals each from Kevin Collin, Jacob Collins and Connor Knaresboro.

Lake Brantley now advances to the Second Round Play-In Game on Friday and will host Lake Highland Prep at 7 p.m.
