The state playoffs are set to begin in high school lacrosse, and a number of Central Florida teams are contenders for a trip the final four. The Lake Mary boys just capped off a 5th straight district championship…thanks to tough defense, timely shooting…and by riding the abilities of a kid named “Sisco”.

The 2nd ranked Rams, who knocked off arch rival Seminole 10-2 in the district 8 championship on Wednesday, are entering the state playoffs with a 14-4 record.

It’s tough to single out a star among a true team full of unheralded heros. Senior middie Josh Marmetschke is the steady team leading goal scorer, senior Alec Quint captains one of the best sets of D-poles in the state, and junior goalie Chandler Harrison has been lights out between the pipes.

Junior middie Kurt Sisco that has provided a spark of star power as of late. Sisco whipped in four goals and dished out two assists in regular season ending 13-3 win over highly ranked Bishop Moore.

“My shots were really on target that game," explains Sisco. "Once you get that first goal things start to click, things just start rolling and it’s just natural. It’s just like anything else really. Once you get going you can’t really be stopped.”

Rams head coach Garrick Robinson has watched Sisco's maturation progress over the last 3 seasons. “ I think Kurt exemplifies what a blue collar player is, he brings  his lunch pail every day," says Robinson."He does a lot of work in the offsesason. He’s really developed his physical attributes, to enhance his lacrosse abilities.”

Sisco adds, “I Just go out every day and work hard, definitely with the team behind me, it’s really easy. Just go out there as a bunch of buds to play some lacrosse. It’s just having some fun.”

It’s certainly fun to become an accomplished shootet, but the aptly named “Sisco Kid” knows that one side of his holster still needs some polish.

"My left hand is not my top suit at all, but shooting and left hand...if I can get those things down, I’ll be able to go somewhere (college)for lacrosse“

Robinson feels Sisco can play at the collgee level, “Whether it be division two or division one, he’s got some feelers out here, and this is going to be a big summer for him in that regard.”
