The Bishop Moore boys lacrosse team led from start to finish Tuesday night in the semifinals of the District 11 tournament, defeating Winter Park 15-5.

The No. 4 Hornets (12-4) led the No. 8 Wildcats 3-2 early in the second quarter before rattling off a 4-0 run to close out the half, with Bishop Moore outscoring Winter Park 12-3 the rest of the way.

“I told them just to make sure we get set up in our offense — don’t rush it, don’t force anything,” Hornets coach Reed Reynolds said, reflecting on the pivotal run to end the half. “See the open guy, see the open look. It worked in the second quarter.”

James Duhon scored four goals on the night to lead Bishop Moore, with Evan Kachris and Matthew Mottern each chipping in three goals. Charlie Moran had three assists to pair with one goal for the Hornets, keying the balanced attack.

“We’ve been very balanced, offensively, all season,” Reynolds said. “We have a lot of guys that see the open guy and we’ve got a lot of guys that can finish the ball.

“We’ve got six to eight guys that all can shoot, all can feed — they play very good team lacrosse.”

Goalie Max Kucera had 13 saves for Bishop Moore.

Winter Park finished the 2014 season with a 9-8 record.

Now, the Hornets will prepare for a showdown for the district title on Thursday against the top team in the state.

No. 1 Lake Highland Prep (15-3) defeated Edgewater earlier in the day and stand between the Hornets and a berth in the FHSAA State Playoffs.

“They’re a good program, very good program,” Reynolds said. “We can’t make a lot of mistakes — same goes for both sides … I believe whoever comes out with fewer mistakes will win.”

Thursday’s game will take place at Bishop Moore and will start at 7 p.m.
