Dr. Phillips has a rich tradition of athletic success, but the Panthers have never won a state tennis championship.

That could change Tuesday.

The Panthers girls team leads after the opening day of the FHSAA Tennis Finals in Seminole County.

Dr. Phillips has 10 points in the 4A girls competition with Boca Raton and Weston Cypress Bay tied for second with eight.

Alizee Michaud, the defending state champion, earned a spot in the team singles final by winning two matches on Monday. She will face top seed Erica Oosterhout of Plant in Tuesday's final.

Lara Nural and Zoe Monge also reached the singles finals in their division and could earn big points with victories.
