Edgewater quickly filled coaching vacancies in its football and boys basketball programs.

Rich Bedesem was selected to replace Jed Kennedy, who abruptly resigned last week after one season with the Eagles football team to accept a head coaching position in Wisconsin.

Edgewater went 1-9 last season under Kennedy, who cited family reasons as his primary motivation for choosing to move back to Wisconsin.

Bedesem, who will be the Eagles fifth coach in five seasons, served as the offensive coordinator last season.

Edgewater athletic director Valerie Miyares announced Wednesday that assistant Jason Atherton would take over as head boys basketball coach.

Matt Turner, who spent five seasons with the Eagles, resigned two weeks ago to pursue a role in administration.

Edgewater, 21-8 this past season, has won 20 or more games the last three years and made back-to-back region final appearances in 2012-13.
