How they match up: The 8A, District 3 championship will be on the line Friday night when Timber Creek heads north to meet Oviedo. The Wolves have already secured a postseason berth while the Lions could potentially miss the playoffs with a loss. Timber Creek features one of the best running backs in Central Florida history in senior Jacques Patrick. Patrick, who committed to Florida State on Monday, has 1,918 yards and 27 touchdowns. That total puts him more than 500 yards ahead of any other running back in the area. The task of trying to slow Patrick down falls on a Lions defense that is yielding just 83 rushing yards per game. Linebackers Jarvis Green (65 tk, six sacks) and Brayce McKenzie (46 tk, 11 sacks) are key players behind a three-man defensive front that includes West Virginia commit Alec Shriner. Oviedo’s offense relies on the running of Jurell Green and Nick Carbone. Green eclipsed 1,000 yards for the season last week with a strong performance against Winter Park. Carbone, a second-year starting quarterback, has 700 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. He has also thrown for four scores. Timber Creek’s top two tacklers are juniors Bryce Balasis (85 tk, 5 TFK) and Hunter Wilkins (81 tk, 10.5 sacks).

Three and out:

1. Patrick is second all-time in rushing yards among Central Florida backs with 7,320 career yards. Former Osceola running back Willie Green holds the area record with 7,947.

2. Jurell Green already holds school records for career rushing yards and rushing touchdowns.

3. Expect a close game between these teams as four of their five previous meetings have been decided by seven points or less.
