Boone Braves senior punter Tommy Townsend was recognized as a US Army All-American at a jersey ceremony at the Boone High School Gymnasium on Wednesday afternoon.

Townsend, a University of Tennessee commit, is the second Boone punter to be selected to play in the US Army All American Bowl. He follows in the footsteps of his brother Johnny Townsend, who played in the 2013 game in San Anotonio, Texas. Johnny is now punting as a sophomore at the University of Florida.

"It's weird to think about, a small south Orlando kid somehow making it big, it really hasn't sunk in yet."said the 6-2, 175 pound Townsend. "I've been wanting to play in this game since my brother played in it. Getting the chance to go to San Antonio and be a part of the festivities there has really making me want to come to this game, I've been thinking about it all day."

The game is will be played Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, and televised by NBC.

Townsend also plays defensive back for head coach Andy Johnson. "Tommy isn't just a great punter, he's a great football player," says Johnson.

Boone (4-4) closes the regular season with games at Colonial and Edgewater, but have already clinched a spot in the 8A state playoffs
