BHSN Central Florida 2014-15 Girls Soccer rankings – FINAL

Here are the final BHSN-Central Florida girls soccer rankings, determined by the Bright House Sports Network editorial staff:

 (record in parentheses)

1.     Viera (20-2) – Courtney’s Lundy’s Hawks were the most impressive team at the FHSAA finals. Viera blanked Navarre 2-0 and Pines Charter 4-0 en route to the 4A state championship front of a loud and raucous home crowd that only had to travel a few miles to witness school history. The Hawks were the only public school team to win a state title this year, as the other four 1st place trophies went to the usual private school powerhouses. #ThinkAboutThat

2.      Bishop Moore (20-3-1)The Hornets’ season came to a heartbreaking end, losing in PK’s to Bolles in the 2A state semifinals. The Bulldogs went on to whip American Heritage-Delray 5-0 in the championship, so Bishop Moore could be considered the 2nd best 2A side in the state.

3.      Oviedo (18-4-2) – Lions advanced to the 5A finals, and showed well against the state’s most decorated program in St. Thomas Aquinas. The game was a stalemate until just 4 minutes to play when the Raiders tallied two goals to deny Oviedo a 3rd state title. Head coach Scott Waisanen will return his top 4 scorers next year.

4.     Merritt Island (11-2-1) – Mustangs didn’t have a favorable draw in the 3A final four, and dropped a 2-0 decision to American Heritage Delray in the semifinals. It’s the 4th straight year that the private school juggernaut has ended Merritt Island’s season.

5.      Melbourne (12-6-3) – The quest for a state “three-peat” fell short in penalty kicks at the region semifinals against rival and eventual 4A champion #1 Viera.

6.      Lake Brantley (13-9-2) – J.C. Garzon’s feisty club peaked at the right time, made an incredible run through the district tournament knocking off Hagerty and #7 Lake Mary, then beat #15 West Orange 3-0 in the state playoffs.

7.      Lake Mary (12-4-3) – Talented Rams were an upset victim in what is easily the toughest district tournament in Central Florida.

8.      Flagler Palm Coast (19-3-2) – Bulldogs’ season ended unexpectedly in a 1-0 upset in the region semis against #12 Spruce Creek

9.     Matanzas (24-3-2) – Tony Benvenuto’s Pirates advanced to the 3A region final, but Land O’ Lakes ended the hopes of making back to the state final four.

10.     Timber Creek (13-5-2)  - Until losing to Newsome in the 5A region semis, the Wolves’ only defeat in the last two months of the season came to 2A state semifinalist #2 Bishop Moore.

Next 5: Lake Highland Prep, Spruce Creek, West Shore, Cocoa Beach, West Orange

Best of the Rest: Boone, Dr. Phillips, Edgewater, Hagerty, Harmony, Heritage, Lake Nona, Orangewood Christian, Satellite, Seabreeze, University, Windermere Prep, Winter Springs.

*Schools must be eligible for FHSAA state playoffs to qualify for BHSN rankings.
