When: Friday, 7:30pm

Where: Deltona High, Deltona (100 Wolf Pack Run)

TV: BHSN (Channel 47 and HD 1147)

Live Streaming: www.bhsnlive.com

Coaches: Lyman – Jeff Gierke (3rd, 12-15); University – Brian Kells (2nd, 9-9)

How they match up: University takes center stage on BHSN as the Titans continue their best season ever in an important district game against Lyman. The Titans must win to keep their hopes of a first ever playoff berth alive. University, which won just two games last season, is currently tied with DeLand for second place in 8A, District 2 behind Lake Mary. The Greyhounds have already been eliminated from postseason contention. Both teams utilize a run-heavy offense. University has racked up more than 2,000 yards on the ground behind Jeremy Diaz (516 yards, 8 TD), Quenell Rutledge (605 yards, 6 TD) and freshman Lorenzo Lingard (656 yards, 8 TD). Lingard suffered a broken collarbone against Hagerty on Sep. 25 and will not be available on Friday. He could return for University’s final regular season game next week against Lake Mary. Lyman has been hit hard by a rash of injuries and the Greyhounds are now on their third quarterback. Correz Morse will get the start on Friday with Romero Wade and Austin Camden both unavailable. Morse and speedy receiver DeShawn Applewhite give the Greyhounds big-play potential on offense. Lyman’s strength is on defense with lineman Davonte Petty, linebacker Lucas Fowler. Defensive end Adam Shuler, a recent West Virginia commit who has been hampered by a knee injury, will be a game-time decision while free safety Mesheck Floyd is out.

Three and out:

1. The Gierke’s are considered by many as the ‘first family’ of high school football in Central Florida. The coaching tree consists of Bill (272 career wins at Evans, Dr. Phillips, Edgewater and Orangewood Christian), brother Chip (158 wins at Apopka, Dr. Phillips and Evans) and sons Jeff and Nate (21 wins at Hagerty)

2. The teams have alternated victories in this short series – Lyman won the first meeting in 2011, University prevailed by a single point in 2012 and the Greyhounds topped the Titans 29-14 last year.

3. University didn’t allow a point in the first three games and the Titans defense is yielding only 6.5 per game this season.
