How they match up: Two of Central Florida’s top programs come together in the final week of the regular season for a final tune-up before the postseason begins. Oviedo is the defending 7A state champion while Lake Mary was the 8A runner-up last year. The Lions are coming off a strong performance at last weekend’s Swing for a Cure tournament in which they went 4-1 and finished as the runner-up to Bishop Kenny. Oviedo’s victories came against First Academy, Martin County, Dr. Phillips and Winter Springs. The Lions have the area’s premier front row duo in outside hitter Courtney Furlong and Bridgette Holland. Furlong, a South Carolina commit, has 356 kills and 24 aces this season while Holland has 187 kills and 39 blocks. After starting the season 9-0, Lake Mary has gone 7-7 in its last 14 matches. Rams outside hitter Katia Haak, a St. Louis commit, recently surpassed former standout Angie Pressey for most career kills in school history. Haak and libero Jessica Paolucci are the only starters that saw significant playing time during Lake Mary’s run to the 8A championship match last season.

Three stats to know:

1. Furlong has 1,455 kills, which is second all-time in area history. The all-time leader is Jessica Yingling, who produced 1,548 from 2005-08.

2. Recently, Lake Mary has dominated this series with five consecutive victories. Oviedo’s only win in the last six matches against the Rams came in October 2011.

3. Haak has at least 200 kills in all four of her years at Lake Mary and now has more than 1,200 in her career.
