  • Attorney to oversee OneOrlando Fund is expert on disaster compensation
  • Victims' families, survivors, public will have say in how funds will be distributed
  • 2 town hall meetings on how funds will be given out to be held next month

Kenneth R. Feinberg has accepted the role of administer for the OneOrlando Fund with the National Comparison Fund, a program of the National Center for Victims of Crime, according to an announcement made public Friday.

One of Feinberg's jobs is to work with the community to create outlines of how funds will be distributed to victims' families and survivors, a process that Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer has stated will be an open and transparent process.

"The process will be open and transparent to ensure that these decisions are made with input from victims’ families and survivors and the larger community," an announcement stated.

Pulse shooting victims’ families and survivors, as well as the public, will have a voice in how those outlines will be formed. There will be two town hall meetings at the Amway Center on Thursday, Aug. 4.

Feinberg will next create a new protocol on how the funds will be given out based off of the feedback and given to the OneOrlando Fund board for approval.

Once that has been approved, claim forms for victims’ families and survivors will be placed on OneOrlando.org.

Once those claims have been reviewed and approved, payments will be given out on Saturday, Oct. 1 of this year, according to the announcement.

In addition, administrative costs will not be paid out from the fund.

“No overhead or administrative costs will be paid for out of the OneOrlando Fund,” according to the announcement.

However, the announcement did not state how these costs will be paid for.
