Don't drink and drive this weekend — or at all, really.

  • 70 law enforcement officers expected to take part in DUI saturation patrols
  • Efforts will be focused on downtown Orlando, including I-4 and East-West Expressway

The Orlando Police Department will be taking part in a multi-agency DUI saturation patrol Friday night.

The patrol will run from 9 p.m. until 4 a.m. About 70 law enforcement officers from every agency in Orange County, including the Florida Highway Patrol, will be participating in the event designed to reduce the number of DUI-related crashes during the Memorial Day weekend.

Orlando police said the efforts will be focused on the downtown corridor, including I-4 and the East-West Expressway.

During the last DUI saturation event, the agencies combined to make 30 DUI arrests and wrote 238 citations, including 129 moving violations.

"It's a high-impact operation that cracks down not only on drunk driving, but all manners of careless driving and other violations," said Michelle Guido, a spokeswoman with the Orlando Police Department.
