More safety measures could be coming to day care facilities in Orange County.
- New day care facilities would be required to have crash barriers
- Existing facilities can apply for up to $10,000 in grant funding
The Orange County Commission on Tuesday will consider a proposal that would require new day care facilities to put crash barriers in place in front of buildings.
Existing facilities can apply for up to $10,000 in grant funding to install the crash barriers.
In April 2014, Robert Corchado crashed into a KinderCare facility in Winter Park. The crash into the building killed 4-year-old Lily Quintus. Another 12 people, including 11 children, were injured.
Corchado was found guilty in December on seven separate counts, including leaving the scene of a deadly accident and drug trafficking. He was sentenced to 40 years in prison.
A public hearing on the item starts at 2 p.m.
