A driver was trapped in her car after live power lines fell on top of her vehicle Tuesday afternoon, Sumter County Fire and EMS said.

Emergency crews were called to 118 South Main St. in Bushnell at 3:23 p.m. because a car hit a cement utility pole, according to Sumter Fire Chief Leland Greek.

The collision was so severe that the front end of the car received heavy damage, and live power lines from the utility pole fell on top of the vehicle, preventing the woman from getting out.

“Once the scene was deemed safe, the patient was treated and transported to Ocala Regional for evaluation," Greek said.

The accident is under investigation.
