Crews will shut down a section of roadway Sunday night near Deltona and DeBary for repairs, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.

  • Eastbound and westbound lanes of I-4 will close in Volusia County
  • Crews are making repairs and repaving parts of the road
  • St. John's River Veterans Memorial Bridge will also undergo construction

East and westbound lanes will be closed from 7:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Crews will repave portions of the road.

Workers plan to close at least one lane on each side, but they could shut down even more lanes throughout the project.

The St. John's River Veterans Memorial Bridge will also undergo construction this week.

This has the potential to cause major backups for drivers during the morning and evening rush hour. However, there are some ways to get around it.

“We can go by Gemini Park and take a left on 1792 and take an alternative route down to I4,” said Tim Miller, commuter.

Volusia County Commuter, Tim Miller, is already planning his Monday morning commute.

Although he’s frustrated with the construction, he knows it should help the interstate in the long run.

The work is part of the Florida Department of Transportation's resurfacing project on I4 from the east end of the St. John’s River Veteran’s Bridge to Saxon Boulevard.

“It is just a little ridiculous,” said Jeremy Gastineau, commuter.

But with any closures, there are some people who aren't so happy.

“Traveling back and forth to work it’s going to be so much traffic,” said Gastineau.

On top of Jeremy’s worries, the entrance ramp he uses to get to work in Sanford is going to close starting Wednesday.

The westbound ramp from Dirksen Drive will close from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.

FDOT also said the contractor may close two lanes at a time between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.
