One person is dead and another injured after a plane crash at Ocala International Airport.

Ocala Fire Rescue was dispatched to the airport on SW 60th Avenue just before 9 a.m. after reports of small aircraft crash.

When crews arrived, they found two people inside the plane. One person was pronounced dead. A second person was taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials said that shortly after the plane took off from the airport, it encountered problems and turned around before crashing.

"It took off from the north, and it had enough time and altitude to turn back around, to get back onto the airport and land in this field," Ocala airport Director Matthew Grow said.

Officials haven't said where the plane was headed but said the man who died was not from the area.

No other information has been released.

The National Traffic Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration were notified, and the NTSB is conducting an investigation.
