Dwan Jerome Thomas, the man accused of making a threat against an employee at Audubon Elementary School in Merritt Island, made his first court appearance at the Brevard County Jail Friday afternoon.

  • No bond granted for charges that included domestic violence, aggravated stalking and disruption of an education institution
  • Dwan Thomas is accused of calling his ex-girlfriend and threatening to shoot up Audubon Elementary School
  • The school was locked down Thursday because of the threat

Thomas is currently facing charges after police say he made a call to his ex-girlfriend threatening to “shoot up the school” on Thursday morning.

No violence occurred at the school Thursday and Thomas was taken into custody later that day.

On Friday, Thomas’s attorney argued that there was no evidence linking his client to the threatening phone call. However the prosecutor disagreed.

“He’s a danger to the public and it’s very clear here that we believe his ties to the community are absolutely irrelevant,” prosecutor Gary Beatty said.

Thomas is currently facing charges of interfering with a school administrative function, and aggravated stalking, domestic violence and disruption of an educational institution.

The judge denied Thomas bond. He is set to appear again before a judge on June 7.

According to the court, Thomas does have two prior felony charges and 3 other misdemeanor charges.
