An Ocala man who shot and killed a neighbor who intervened in a fight will not face charges, prosecutors said.

The State Attorney’s Office for the Fifth Judicial Circuit said Ryan Panzegraf, 33, will not be charged in the shooting death of 32-year-old Michael Thomas Ratliff.

On Jan. 24, deputies responded to 5703 SW 108th St. at 1:32 a.m. after receiving a call about a shooting.

When they arrived, they learned that Ratliff had been involved in a physical altercation with his girlfriend, Alyse Lazaro.

At some point, Lazaro ran to her neighbor's house for help. The neighbor, identified as Ryan Panzegraf, came back to the house with Lazaro.

Deputies say another physical altercation ensued, during which Panzegraf shot Ratliff in the chest.

Ratliff was taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Prosecutors said they cited Florida’s Stand Your Ground Law in not pursuing charges.
