Fifty-two weeks, 52 heroes.

Every Monday, News 13 brings you Everyday Heroes, a segment where we profile a Central Floridian who has gone above and beyond to help others in our community.

The 52 men, women and children who were profiled as Everyday Heroes in 2015 will be honored at a special Salute to Everyday Heroes Luncheon in Orlando in March.

Six of these heroes have been nominated to be News 13’s Viewers’ Choice Everyday Hero.

Meet these courageous candidates:

Alexandra Becerril

If you saw your family member collapse, how would you react? Eight-year-old Alexandra’s quick thinking and calm under pressure is credited with saving her brother’s life after he had a bad reaction to medication. The 911 operator said some adults can’t speak to 911 in an emergency the way Alexandra did. For her quick action, she was recognized as St. Cloud’s very first 911 hero. She says she hopes other kids hear her story and see how easy it is to call 911 when you have an emergency.

Kevin Sutton

You might have seen Kevin Sutton camp out in front of the Best Buy near Florida Mall. But this man is not homeless, nor is her waiting to buy something at the electronics store. He’s doing it to raise awareness about Central Florida’s homeless. Sutton’s “Campout for a Cause” gave him a chance to talk to people about the homeless. He also collected food. In 2015, he camped out 36 days, through Black Friday and collected some 6,000 items for the Christian Service Center. Sutton is also director of Boot Camp for Dads, a program to help men become confident and committed as fathers.

Brett Sahm

This Orlando attorney founded a group that helps people connect with organizations that need volunteers. Orlando Outreachers Inc. helps smaller, local charity organizations find the volunteers needed for projects, and help people who might consider volunteering but are uncomfortable just jumping in with a platform to find a group that needs help. Orlando Outreachers Inc. now has 200 active volunteers.

Doctors Jamin Brahmbhatt and Sijo Parekattil

Two Lake County doctors went on a quest to get more men interested about their health. And what more manly way to do it than with a cross-country road trip? Urologists Jamin Brahmbhatt and Sijo Parekattil took a Tesla from Florida to California, stopping every 150 miles or so to recharge the car and also to talk to men about their health. But men’s health isn’t just about eating healthy and getting better sleep. These men talked about things like male infertility, chronic groin or testicular pain. Things that men may be uncomfortable talking about with strangers. Brahmbhatt and Parekattil say they will start up their 10-day, 6,000-mile tour again this year.

A.J. Ortiz

An Orlando Boy Scout did a good deed for the residents of a home for people with special needs. Back in May, A.J. Ortiz filled a truck and trailer with boxes full of thousands of items for the residents of The Russell Home for Atypical Children. The items weren’t fancy, but they were important – trash bags, mouthwash, body wash, wash cloths. The Russell Home says they need these everyday items that people take for granted. On top of the donated goods, Ortiz also presented the Russell Home with a $3,000 check – all donations.

Who should be the Viewers’ Choice Everyday Hero of 2015? Vote now through March 11.
