Flagler and Volusia counties are under a "red flag" fire alert until 7 p.m. Monday, officials said.

The Bunnell district of the Florida Forest Service made the declaration early Monday morning "due to expected high winds, highly unstable atmosphere and very low humidity."

"I know the weather is cool and there is a good amount of water on the ground, but the conditions are still ripe for fire," Fire Rescue Chief Don Petito said. "Please completely put out cigarettes in ashtrays or with water. Do not burn yard waste and do not start any outdoor fires today."

If you see fire, call 911 immediately.

The red flag fire alert is also in effect for Volusia and St. Johns counties.
