Jerry Forte, the deputy fire chief for the city of Palm Coast, was in the right place at the right time Wednesday when a 911 call came in about a resident who fell into his swimming pool and needed to be rescued.

Forte was driving through the W-section when he heard the call and was able to respond within minutes.

Forte was first on scene and jumped into the pool and pulled out the man, who was confused but breathing.

Palm Coast Fire Department crews from Station 25 arrived minutes later and took over the patient care until the man could be transported to the hospital by Flagler County paramedics.

"Kudos go out to Chief Forte," Palm Coast Fire Chief Mike Beadle said in a statement.
