A Brevard County corrections officer is without a job and in jail charged with having sex with an inmate.

Investigators say the relationship has been going on for the past several weeks.

The Sheriff's Office says Corrections Deputy Barre Taylor supervised the female inmate and they found out he began engaging in sexual activities with the incarcerated woman.

At this point the sheriff says this is an isolated incident between Taylor and the inmate with no one else involved.

“This is a sad day for someone that took the oath of office, and has now not only violated the trust of our citizens, but of his supervisors, his sheriff, and his community,” said Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey.

Taylor was fired at the time of his arrest and booked on sexual misconduct charges with a $5,000 bond.

He hasn't had any disciplinary action against him in the past according to the sheriff.

He is being held in the Seminole County jail for his safety.  The inmate involved is being questioned and is not facing any charges at this time.
