Harry T. Moore was a man who dedicated much of his life fighting for racial equality and African American's right to vote.  Now a Seminole County woman is fighting to get a movie made about his life.

Dr. Florence Alexander, PhD. says she is, “passionate about doing a movie so that people will know about Harry T. Moore."

The Seminole County resident and businesswoman says she wants to see the life of Civil Rights leader Harry T. Moore on the silver screen.

“Harry T. Moore predated Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks and Malcolm X. He predated all of the well-known civil rights leaders”, said Dr. Alexander.

Harry T. Moore was born in the Florida panhandle and grew up on the state’s east coast.

Several years after graduating from Florida Memorial College, Moore started the first chapter of the NAACP in Florida. The office opened in Brevard County in 1934. More than 60 other chapters were to follow under his leadership. He also vigorously encouraged blacks to register to vote.

“He is credited with registering 116,000 blacks in our state, to vote, before we had the voting rights”, said Dr. Alexander.

Harry T. Moore married his wife Harriet on Christmas Day 1926. He and Harriett and the couple’s children lived in Mims until Christmas night 1951.

“He was assassinated in his bed in 1951. It is believed that the KKK assassinated him. Put a bomb underneath his bedroom and he and his wife were killed”, said Dr. Alexander.

Today, Moore is remembered throughout Brevard County for his extraordinary efforts.  There is a post office is named after him as well as a justice center and a portion of a highway.

Dr. Alexander says she will continue to fight to get a movie made about Moore. She credits him and other civil rights leaders for paving the way for her success in business.

“I credit everything I have done, first to my Creator, then my wonderful parents and then all of the people who sacrificed so doors could open for me”, said Dr. Alexander.

While there have been multiple investigations, no one has ever been prosecuted for the Moore’s murder.
