A Cocoa teenage has been arrested in connection with the death of his 21-month-old sister.

We are not naming the teen per our Crime Guidelines because he has not been charged as an adult.

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office said the teen was arrested Monday evening on a charge of second-degree murder. He is being held in the Juvenile Detention Center without bond.

The Sheriff’s Office said the investigation began early Sunday when deputies responded to a 911 form a residence in Cocoa for the report of an unresponsive infant.

The infant was transported to Wuesthoff Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators said emergency room doctors alerted deputies after they observed signs of trauma and an investigation began into the circumstances surrounding the death.

Deputies said an autopsy conducted by the Brevard County Medical Examiner concluded that the victim died as a result of blunt force trauma and determined the death a homicide.

The Sheriff’s Office said their investigation determined that the teenage boy intentionally struck the victim, causing the injuries that led to her death.
