Local business owners told News 13, even though no one has won the Powerball, the tickets are bringing in double the amount of sales in their stores.

Piyush Patel is enjoying the steady rush of people coming into his store to get Powerball tickets.

“They go crazy and they say I got to play this one,” said Patel.

Patel said as people play, dollars are flowing into his small Raceway convenient store.

“It's like everybody who walked in the store was interested in buying tickets. It helps the businesses because they can walk in for the lottery and look at other things to purchase,” said Patel.

Patel said store owners get about five-percent from their sales from the lottery.

One couple is not only hoping to win the estimated $1.3 billion, but they are making a trek across several states purchasing tickets from small businesses on their way home.

“We'll hit Florida guess we'll hit Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and then Virginia,“ said Madeline Kotoriy.

“They would be driving through and stop at a random kiosk or store and getting one ticket and their the winner,” said Nicholas Napoli.

Patel said he's thankful for all the business and he hopes his store will be the one that sells the winning ticket.

“$1.3 billion dollars, somebody's going to be lucky with that,” said Patel.
