Despite some printed materials floating around, Flagler County officials said the county isn’t soliciting donations for a new senior center at the Palm Coast Yacht Club or anywhere else.

County officials have been made aware that someone is using printed materials belonging to the Flagler County Senior Services Division to entice people into a private venture to acquire a new senior center.

“We want it to be very clear to the public that Flagler County government is neither seeking to raise money for a new senior center through public donations, nor are we pursuing the purchase of the Palm Coast Yacht Club facility,” County Administrator Craig Coffey said in a statement.

The daughter of a 90-year-old man contacted Flagler County officials on Tuesday after she said her father was contacted about attending a meeting to discuss raising money for a new senior center.

The woman said she was upset because she believed the person who spoke with her father implied working for Flagler County to deceive her father.

The  county was provided with a copy of the printed invitation that is typically used by Flagler County Senior Services to invite prospective members to the George Wickline Center in Flagler Beach.

Scrawled across the invitation is the name and phone number of the individual asking for “an appointment to speak to you.”
