Tropical Storm Fred, the sixth tropical storm of the 2015 season, formed in the far Eastern Atlantic Ocean near the Cape Verde Islands Sunday and is strengthening.

As of 11 p.m. Sunday, it looks like a bit more strengthening is expected and Fred could become the second hurricane of the season early Monday. A hurricane warning is in effect for the Cape Verde islands in the far Eastern Atlantic Ocean.

Fred is thousands of miles from the United States. A review of the records back to the mid 1800s shows that only once has a storm been within 100 miles of where Fred is expected to go and reached the United States. Bottom line, we are not concerned with Fred making a U.S. impact.
