An Osceola County Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured early Saturday morning after his marked patrol vehicle was hit by another vehicle in Orange County.

The crash happened just after 2 a.m. at the intersection of John Young Parkway and Town Center Boulevard.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Edgar Rodriguez, 23, of Kissimmee was attempting to make a left turn from southbound John Young Parkway to eastbound Town Center Boulevard and struck a marked Osceola County Sheriff’s Office vehicle driven by Deputy Christopher Pye.

FHP said the impact of the crash pushed Deputy Pye’s patrol vehicle into a concrete light pole on the northeast corner of the intersection.

Deputy Pye, 23, was transported to Osceola Regional Medical Center in Kissimmee where he is under observance for non-life threatening injuries.

Troopers said witnesses told them the deputy had a green light.

Rodriguez was arrested for DUI.

The Sheriff's Office said Deputy Pine, who is assigned as a patrol deputy and has been with them for a year, was on his way home after finishing his shift.
