Work began Saturday on a Melbourne woman's new home, thanks to Habitat for Humanity of Brevard County.

Karla Hernandez moved to Florida from Puerto Rico with her two children, hoping to make a better life for them.

That's where Brevard Habitat came in to help.

Volunteers raised the first wall on the Hernandez family's brand new home Saturday.

Karla has already worked on two other houses with Habitat, and she will be a part of the team that builds her dream home.

"I'm very excited, because all my life, that's my dream — and right now, I see my dream almost complete," Hernandez said.

The family hopes to move into their new home before Thanksgiving.
