Here's what you need to know for Central Florida's weather this weekend:

  • Scattered showers and storms Sunday
  • Erika no longer a tropical storm, but will still bring wet weather

Erika encountered high winds over Cuba early Saturday morning and was able to dissipate to a remnant low.  While conditions right now are unfavorable, we’ll continue to watch where the remnants track over the next few days.  What’s left of Erika will continue to move northwest into the eastern Gulf of Mexico. Lower wind shear and warm waters may help to regenerate some tropical activity Monday or Tuesday.  The chance for now is low, but something to keep an eye on.  Regardless of what happens, high rain chances will stick around through mid-week.  Elsewhere in the tropics, we’re now watching another area of low pressure that has just moved off the African coast.  This low, Invest 99, has a high chance for tropical development over the next few days.  If it develops, it will be named Fred.

Locally, we had quite a few showers and storms to start the weekend.  Both an upper level low over the Gulf and remnants of Erika are pushing a lot of moisture into Central Florida.  Several spots received up to two inches of rain and more is still to come with high rain chances sticking around.  By Monday, some areas may get up to five inches.  There is a Flood Watch in effect for Lake, Volusia, Orange, Brevard, and Osceola counties through 8pm Monday.

A few showers will be possible through the overnight hours.  Skies will remain mostly cloudy as we head toward daybreak with temperatures in the mid-70s.

As remnants of Erika lifts north, moisture will stream into Central Florida Sunday and Monday.  This will allow for high rain chances both days, with heavier rain possible.  High temperatures will back off a bit into the mid to upper 80s.  By the end of the week, we’ll settle back into a typical pattern with afternoon showers and storms with highs near 90s.
