Parents picking up their students at one Osceola County school are waiting for hours to see their children.

Ever since school started, parents picking up students at PM Wells Charter School in Kissimmee this week have had to wait extended periods of time to see their kids.

Some parents even said they waited for more than an hour.

"Since school started, it's about a 90-minute wait," said Kenneth Williams.

Parents start lining Partin Settlement Road hours before school is let out, which causes a major traffic jam on the roadway.

Part of the problem is that the charter school lets out shortly after their neighbor, Partin Settlement Elementary, releases their students. So parents waiting on Partin Settlement are traveling to different schools but are both stuck waiting.

PM Wells School officials also said they have more students than before, with just about 800. More students mean more parents pulling up to pick up their students. Administrators estimated about 300 cars pulled up for students Thursday.

"You got to line up an hour and a half just to pick up your grand-kid," said Lorraine Romero, who picks up her granddaughter.

So far the sheriff's office was called out this week, and they are monitoring student safety.

PM Wells officials said they have also been working to find solutions that will reduce wait times. Friday the wait was reduced to about 40 minutes from the time school let out to the time the last parent pulled up.

People like Romero are tired of waiting, but she said she’s skeptical.

"I hope they come up with something because it's not working," Romero said.
