Here's what you need to know for Central Florida's weather on the upcoming weekend:

  • Numerous showers and storms
  • Higher rain chances
  • A break from the heat
  • Closely watching Erika

Tonight a few lingering showers still possible with the majority of us drying out under a partly cloudy sky.  Temperatures will remain in the mid-70s throughout the night.

The possibility of rain is still elevated Friday and into the weekend. Torrential rain, frequent lightning, and wind gusts will be possible the next few days, with highs into the lower 90s Friday through Sunday, and lows in the middle 70s. Again, low confidence in our forecast for Monday and Tuesday, with the evolution of Erika. We could either enjoy a couple nice days with highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s, or prepare for a couple very windy and rainy days, with highs in the lower to middle 80s.

Erika remains fairly unorganized, as she slides over the Leeward Islands and makes her trek toward Puerto Rico. Although thunderstorms have flared up over the past few hours, the core remains well west of storm development. Wind shear continues to plague Erika, as she continues a westward track, with an eventual turn toward the west-northwest sometime in the next 12 hours. Florida is still in the cone of uncertainty, but the slower motion of the storm means impacts won’t be felt across the Sunshine State until sometime Monday into Tuesday. UNCERTAINTY is the key word, as forecast confidence in Erika beyond a couple days remains very low.
