Here's what you need to know for Central Florida's weather on for the rest of the week:

  • Hottest day of the week
  • Lower rain chances
  • Afternoon storms returning
  • Heating up in the tropics

A few isolated showers will be ending near midnight. Clouds will continue to erode through morning with temperatures only down into the upper 70s.

Tropical Storm Erika has flared up a bit more today.  She is still churning along to the west at 20 mph, and will continue this path for the next 12 to 18 hours before taking a slight west-northwestward turn. Current forecast information brings Erika to hurricane status sometime this weekend. Models are in a large disagreement about the future of Erika, so stay tuned for updates at :21 & :51 every hour.

The light, west-southwest flow across central Florida remains in place, allowing highs to jump into the low to mid 90s. Slightly drier air filtering into the mid and upper atmosphere kept rain at bay, but a front dropping into northern Florida is about to draw more moisture into the area, and kick our wind to the southeast.

Rain chances increase to a 50 percent to 60 percent from Wednesday through the weekend. Locally heavy rain, frequent lightning, and strong wind gusts will be possible as storms develop the next several days. Highs on Wednesday stay quite high in the low to mid-90s, then slip slightly into the lower 90s for the rest of the forecast period. Lows stay in the mid 70s.
