A Brevard County teenager who spent much of the last year battling non-Hodgkin lymphoma died Monday in Texas.

Gaige Robbins was 19. His family posted the following Monday on Facebook:

With a heavy heart, I'm informing ALL the supporters that Gaige has just lost his battle. He passed away today at 1:56 p.m. (Texas time). We ask that you all continue to keep TEAM ROBBINS in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. It's because of YOU his parents were able to be in Texas with him and we can't thank YOU enough for that. Gaige is still our hero and INSIPIRED so many throughout his battle. Gaige is now pain-free, laughing and dancing above us. We LOVE you Gaige!

Gaige underwent several chemotherapy treatments over the last several months, with little success. But through it all, Gaige's family said he didn't lose his humor or his upbeat attitude.

We first introduced you to Gaige in April, when he crossed his longtime dream of skydiving off his bucket list at Skydive Sebastian.

In July, Gaige's story went viral after his family set up a Facebook page called Support Gaige Robbins. He even got to fly to Georgia to meet one of his favorite actors, Adam Sandler, who invited the Melbourne teen and his family to the set of his new film, "The Do Over."

Gaige kept a positive attitude whenever we met with him over the last several months, saying from his hospital bed at Holmes Regional Medical Center in July: "If you let something get to you, you've already lost the battle."

Supporters have raised nearly $16,000 for Gaige's medical expenses on GoFundMe. That campaign site is not managed by News 13. For more information on how the site works and the rules, visit http://www.gofundme.com/safety.
