Throughout the weekend swimmers have been jumping out of the waters in Cocoa Beach because of sharks.

Saturday, Ocean Rescue even helped a little boy who was bitten by some sort of animal.

Now, lifeguards are asking swimmers to stay aware of their surroundings.

"You could see the whole body as it was coming up, and people were still out there so the lifeguards started pulling people in," said Andrew Ortiz, who spotted the shark.

Despite the reports of sharks and possible attacks, frequent beach visitors told us they weren't going to let it stop them from getting in the water.

"It's really hot down here so I have to stay cool somehow but I'm going to keep my eye out," said Brady Young of Indiana.

While you can keep a lookout in the water Ocean Rescue is asking you to check your lifeguard stands for flag warnings.

"You could be in a fairly safe situation but that could change quickly. The best advice I could give someone is to stay near a lifeguard," Derek Swor with Brevard County Ocean Rescue explained.

Rescue said bait fish is migrating near the coast and that's what may be drawing in the sharks.
